The Hunger Games

For my outside of class book i read the hunger games by Suzanne Collins. This fiction tale was copyrighted in 2008.  The hunger games is about a sixteen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen.  She lives In district twelve the last of the districts in former north america now known as "Panem."  Each year in Panem to punish the districts for rebelling in the dark days the capitol makes each district provide one male and one female tribute to compete in the Hunger Games.  The Hunger Games is a annual competition where all the tributes from each district are thrown into an arena and forced to fight to the death, the last tribute is crowned the champion and brings riches and spoils back to their district.  Heres the catch... the Tributes are chosen anonymously in a raffle.  But if you put your name in the drawing more times you will receive enough grain and oil to survive on for a year but of course the more times you put your name in you will have a better chance of well... dying most likely.

The story is told from the point of view of Katniss.  Katniss's point of view is dtrongly disliking the rich and snobby Capitol.  The Capitol does not have to provide tributes to compete in the Hunger Games and is the most spoiled area in all of Panem.  I think that the intended audience for this book is teenagers who enjoy drama and a whole lot of action.  This book is a fiction story.  The author kept me turning the pages by having a sequence of action and suspense following each other,  this book is full of action.  I think that the authors style works on his intended audience because it keeps the straying minds of teenagers focused because there is always something happening.  There is also a lot of story that is not as action packed but still just as entertaining.

To me this book had me biting my fingernails in suspense.  I felt like I was actually in the Hunger Games with Katniss,  sharing her struggles.  It kind of reminded me of this book called Legend by Marie Lu because the governments in both books were very controlling and seemed to be looming over the citizens all the time and they did cruel things to the citizens.

I think this book is excellent the visual image that it puts in your head is excellent it makes you feel like you are actually in the book with the characters feeling the same emotions as they are.  I also like the amount of detail and action in this book it really keeps the reader flipping the pages.  I would recommend this book to a reader who enjoys feeling a personal connection to a book.
