The opening
statement: Fall of Five by Pittacus Lore.
Copyright 2013, genre Science Fiction. Fourth in the series of The Lorien Legacies,
that began with I Am Number Four.
The general plot of this story is the garde is
trying to find the final member of the lorien garde that were sent to earth to
protect the humans. The mogodorians want to have a mass genocide of earth, as
they did to the garde’s home planet, Lorien. In sum, once the team of the
gardes locate their last member (that is missing for almost the whole story),
they will be able to defeat the leader of the mogodorians, Setrakas Ra.
The theme of this book is a group is better
than one, or two. In this case, the group is better than one because if a team
is working together they can maximize their capabilities in terms of their
strengths.
The story is told from the point of view of 4
different people, the main characters throughout the series. The team of 6
friends continues to fight off the evil Mogadorians. Each Garde has a power but
together they still have not conquered the enemies because they have not
figured out the full potential of their legacies. The intended audience is
young adults as some of the scenes are not intended for children. The genre is science
fiction obviously with the aliens and what not.
The author
keeps us interested in a few ways. First there is an ongoing love story beteen
sarah and number four, a main character. Then there is the anticipation factor.
One is always turning the page to learn what will happen next, will good
conquer evil. Finally, there is the friendship story between a few of the
Garde. It is clear that there is a strong tie for Sam, Sam’s Dad, Number four,
Sarah, Number six, Number eight and Marina. The author’s style is effective in
that you must keep turning the pages to make sure the team of friends win each
battle.
This book
affected me by showing me the true power of team all together. Sometimes a team
can even become family. The story has some components similar to the Hunger
Games in that there is a group of teens trying to stay alive and there is a
love story of some sort. I also think that the book Rot & Ruin has some
similarities because it’s a story about survival against an outside force. The only
problem I had with this book was the ending… HUGE CLIFF HANGER!!!
