The Fault in our Stars

For this six weeks I read "The Fault in our Stars" by John Green.  The book was published in 2012; it is a realistic fiction book based on two teenagers who have cancer.  It is a really good book, but it is very sad in some parts.  The book is mainly about a girl who has Thyroid and Lung cancer, and a boy who had cancer and lost his leg to it.  It is a tragic love story.  The book is all about how they fall in love and all the adventures they take together.  The overall theme of this book is love can happen no matter what condition/position you are in.

The story is told by a girl, Hazel, who has cancer.  Hazel tells us about how in support group she meets this boy Augustus Waters.  They fall in love as soon as they meet.  They start to do everything together.  They both love this author so they even take a trip together to see him.  He is not what they expected but they aren't too upset about it because they are together.  The intended audience is mainly kids our age.  The book would probably be classified as realistic fiction because this could happen but it is all made up.  The author always kept me interested because he used foreshadowing.  He always made me want to keep reading to see what happens.  I would say the author style is sad and happy at the same time.  It is a happy story but has a really sad ending.  This book is effective for his audience because it helps teenagers understand that kids with cancer can do everything we can and they aren't different.

The book has effected me by having a better understanding of kids who have cancer and their feelings.  The book didn't really change any ideas I had about cancer and diseases.  The book's idea fits into my personal view of the world because I think good things can happen to people who are hopeless and this book proved that because Hazel was convinced she was depressed and then everything changed when she met Augustus.  I also think all good things come to an end and that also happened in the book.  This book was different than other books I have read because most of the books I read all have a happy ending, but not this one.

I think the author did a great job writing this book because he made you feel what the characters were feeling.  I would really recommend this book because it is great and the author does a good job of making us understand the people's feelings.
